Snow Clothing Guide

1. CHOOSE COMFORT OVER LOOKS

Remember we'll be out in the snow! Often times if you're uncomfortable, it'll show in the photos. We want you to not just show up to take photos, but to have an amazing experience! Snow boots, uggs, and some other shoes covering your whole foot look great in the snow! Jackets and sweaters help make the photos more real and cozy! And yes we all love them LAYERS! Adding small things like beanie, fedoras and scarfs go a long way too. However, wearing a skirt and heals as an example, may hinder what you're able to do on the shoot. So be comfortable! Make sure your outfit fits your personality, but is also practical for walking, running and being in the snow!

2. TONES & COLORS

We typically encourage neutral tones. This doesn’t mean just creams and browns and grays. There are neutrals for every single color! Instead of green, go for a soft forest green. Instead of red, go with a deep maroon. Instead of yellow, go for a mustard yellow and so on. We've found creams, browns, and blacks look the best in the snow. Since the background is mostly white with green trees, wearing neutral tones help make you pop and the focus is primarily on you, not your clothes.

Bright fluorescent colors dont really inspire us since we typically shoot in earthy natural settings, and they end up becoming more of a distraction which is why we recommend to stay away from them.

Skin tone and your outfit go hand in hand. We want you to wear colors that compliment your skin tone, We find that reds, oranges and pinks can affect the way your skin tone looks in the photos in a negative way. So if possible, stick closer to tones that will help your skin tone flourish naturally.

3. MATCH VS COMPLIMENT

Complimentary is good. Matching is bad. When people match, they tend to blend together too much, ending up looking like a big blob in photos.

Complimentary means the variety of colors, textures, accessories, patterns, and tones all sing together while there is still separation from each of the subjects and the background. As an example, if a couple both wear white sweaters, they may begin to look like there is no separation. But wearing tones that are different but compliment, will help each to stand on their own as their own person in the photo. The same applies for families. If all members are wearing the same color or pattern, they all begin to blend together. If you do come wearing the same color, we do our diligence to create spacing in the photos so you can easily see the difference in each person.

OVERALL - BE YOURSELF

All the points above are just tips! Wear what makes you happy and what helps you to express yourself. At the end of the day, these are YOUR photos that will highlight YOUR love and life right now!
